School’s almost out, which means the question every parent is quietly panicking about is almost here: what are we actually doing this summer?
We did some digging so you don’t have to. Here are six local programs still accepting registrations, with something for every kind of kid.
The Sewist
If your kid is the type who’d rather make something than watch something, Refashion Camp is for them. Ages 10-17, they’ll learn to mend, patch, and creatively alter old clothes into pieces they’re actually proud to wear. Practical skills, zero screen time, and they come home with something to show for it. Two sessions left: June 29-30 and July 2-4. Book here
Summer Jam Basketball
For the kid who dribbles in the kitchen and shoots imaginary free throws at the garbage can. Saint John’s longest-running basketball camp, led by Jim Palmer, running 9am-4pm at Saint John High School. $250 per camper. A few spots left:
Ages 6-11: July 6-10 (2 spots), July 20-24 (5 spots), August 10-14 (8 spots)
Ages 12-16: July 13-17 (15 spots)
Email summerjambasketball@outlook.com to register.
City of Saint John Sunshine Program
Free. Fun! Eight locations across the city. Sports, games, arts and crafts, and off-site adventures for kids ages 6-12, running through August 14. Morning and afternoon sessions available. The catch: kids go home for lunch, so you need to be around mid-day. Lots of families team up with a neighbour and trade off pickup duty, which honestly sounds like a parenting hack worth stealing. Registration required at saintjohn.ca.
BGC Greater Saint John: Summer Slide
Safe, affordable, inclusive, and fun. The BGC Summer Slide runs June 22 through August 2 for kids in grades 1-5. Hard to ask for more than that. Register at sjbgclub.com.
RNS Camps
Did you know RNS runs summer day camps open to all kids, not just their own students? Session 3 (July 27-30) still has spots in Leadership Camp (grades 5-9), Choir Camp (grades 6-9), and Multisport Camp (kindergarten to grade 6). Hot lunch and snacks are included, which, as a parent, you will appreciate more than the kids will. Full schedule at rns.cc.
RKYC Wet Feet
Imagine your 6, 7, or 8 year old learning to sail on the Kennebeccasis this summer. That’s Wet Feet. A play-based intro to sailing run by the Royal Kennebeccasis Yacht Club, taught by Sail Canada certified instructors. Four two-week sessions starting June 22. $275 per session. More at rkyc.ca.
We’re not affiliated with any of these programs. We’re just parents too, and we know how fast summer fills up. Hope this helps. 💛
And before camp starts, come see us for a fresh summer cut. Book at bubbleshair.ca.
